CHILD CARE WORKER – ESL PROGRAM

Position Purpose:

The Child Care Worker contributes to C.A.R.E.’s mission and vision by providing qualified and culturally sensitive child care support for children of ESL students.

Accountability:

Under supervision of the Lead Childminder and reporting to the ESL Manager, the Child Care Worker is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the program and ongoing supervision of the children as member of the ESL Child Care team.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare the room appropriately before the children arrive, and be ready to accept and supervise the children at the scheduled time
• Check children for injuries and illness as they arrive
• Supervise the children’s daily activities and routines; put infants to sleep when necessary
• Monitor the children’s behaviour and intervene as needed, responding sensitively to the cultural heritage, values and individual experiences of the children
• Inspect and maintain toys and equipment, and assume an equal share of housekeeping responsibilities
• Monitor all entrances and exits at all times
• Communicate with parents about any specifics related to their children as needed

Required Competencies & Qualifications:

• Diploma in Early Learning & Child Care (or working toward completing it)
• Current first-aid and CPR certification appropriate to children and clear TB Test
• ¬Demonstrated sensitivity to, and understanding of, the challenges faced by newcomers to Canada.
• Experience working with immigrant children preferred
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills; must be able to develop and maintain a rapport with parents.
• Clean Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Check
