CONTROLLER – PART-TIME – PERMANENT

FINANCIAL CONTROLLER

Position Purpose:

The Financial Controller contributes to C.A.R.E.’s mission and vision by coordinating the financial operations, providing financial reporting and forecasting support and advice to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.

Accountability:

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Financial Controller oversees the financial operations of the agency; provides financial guidance, advice and administration support to the Executive Director, the Board and other agency Managers; meets reporting requirements of government regulatory bodies (i.e. CRA, WCB, etc.); and meets financial targets and budget requirements for the agency and for funders. In this position he/she will have access to personal and confidential information and is expected to maintain discretion at all times.

Key Responsibilities:

1) Finance Operations:
• Perform or oversee the duties normally associated with the bookkeeping function such as entering accounting transactions, maintaining the chart of accounts, keeping information on suppliers and vendors up-to-date, sending out invoices, paying bills, etc.
In this the Financial Controller will be the supervisor of bookkeeper services.

2) Budgeting and Financial Planning
• Prepare annual budgets and financial reports as required by the Executive Director, Board of Directors and Program Managers to ensure annual budget targets are met.
• Provide advice on short-term forecasts and utilization of available resources.
• Contribute to long-term financial planning for the Agency.

3) Reporting
• Prepare scheduled reports as requested by various funding bodies, Executive Director, Board of Directors and Program Managers.

4) Payroll
• Perform or oversee monthly payroll process
In this the Financial Controller will liaise with the Human Resources Manager and Executive Assistant for staff administration.

5) Compliance
• Prepare Agency’s finance records and reports for, and work with auditors during annual audit.
• Ensure Agency complies with regulatory bodies (i.e. CRA, WCB, Labour Standards, etc.).

Performance Indicators:

• Accuracy of financial records.
• Timing of submission of financial claims to ensure cash flow is maintained.
• Level in which Agency meets Budget targets.
• Timeliness of internal and external Monthly/Quarterly/Year end reports.
• Payroll accuracy and timeliness
• Executive Director and Board of Directors are satisfied with finance administration support.

Required Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Business administration diploma/degree or equivalencies.
Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation with NPO experience strongly preferred.
• Comprehensive technical accounting/bookkeeping/budgeting skills and comprehensive knowledge of Sage 50 and payroll compliance.
• High proficiency in financial reporting, filing and budgeting.
• High proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of products.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and in team environment and manage own workload and time.
• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive relationships, both internally and externally, to achieve the goals of the Agency.
• Good judgment, able to maintain confidentiality.
