Position Purpose:

The Educational Assistant contributes to C.A.R.E.’s mission and vision by ensuring that students with exceptional needs receive language learning support as part of the LINC ESL classes.


Reporting to the ESL Manager and in liaison with the English Language Instructors, the Educational Assistant is responsible for providing support for the delivery of language training to all students.

Key Responsibilities:

1) Instructor Assistance
• Assist instructors with resource and materials preparation including print and digital files
• Assist instructors with classroom supervision during student-teacher conferences and assessment tasks

2) Student Assistance
• Assist students with portfolio organization and management
• Monitor and/or facilitate small groups as per instructors’ requests and instructions
• Work one-on-one with students as per instructors’ requests and instructions; monitor student needs and progress and communicate these to the instructor
• Invigilate catch-up reading or writing assessment tasks as per instructors’ requests and instructions

3) Program Support
• Attend meetings and in-house presentations in order to stay current with information relevant to the job
• Perform general administrative tasks (making copies, filing, sorting, organizing, replenishing supplies and resources, scanning and saving digital files, update bulletin boards, keep common areas neat and tidy, remove recycling, etc.)
• Perform other relevant duties as assigned by the ESL Program Manager

Required Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Certificate or diploma in a related field
• Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the challenges faced by newcomers to Canada.
• Experience and/or training in working with learners of English as an additional Language
• Awareness of philosophy and methods of adult education
• Excellent organizational skills and time management skills
• Ability to work independently and as a team member
• Strong inter-personal skills
